As I have said in my blurb on the front page of my site my first proper run was a parkrun in April 2017.
Before then I had run round the streets a few times and obviously the enforced running we all had to do at school.
My first parkrun went ok even if I did have to walk for a small section in the middle.
A few weeks later at the end of what still is the slowest parkrun I have ever done I was handed a leaflet about a local 10k hosted by a running club.
I decided that this would be a good way to motivate me to run more often and further.
The race was tough and hilly but the feeling at the end was great.
Doing this led me to joining the club that had hosted the race.
I still think that this was one of the best decisions I ever made. Being part of the BADGERS has made me healthier than I have ever been and introduced me to a wonderful group of people.
I have continued to train and race with the club which has seen my times improve over every distance I have attempted.
Towards the end of 2018 I was awarded one of the clubs places in the 2019 London Marathon.
After some hard winter training I completed the race in 3:12:15. It was the best day I have had as a runner and one of the best in my life.
Since this I have continued to run and take part in races. I have now also been made Vice Captain of the men’s team for the club.
My next challenges are the Manchester Marathon (more about this in my next post) and the Berlin Marathon.
